Adult & Senior Eye Exams
Regardless of your age or health, regular eye exams are an essential part of preventive health care. An eye exam does so much more than determine your current prescription: we check how your eyes function together, assess your overall ocular health, and check for early warning signs of health conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.
At Trendz Optical, we follow the recommended eye exam frequency suggested by the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO):
- Adults between 20 and 39 should have an eye exam every 2 to 3 years.
- Adults between the ages of 40 and 64 should have an eye exam about every 2 years.
- Adults over 65 should undergo annual eye exams to check their eyes for age-related conditions like macular degeneration or cataracts.
However, every person has their own unique eye care needs. Our optometrists may recommend a different schedule for you based on your eye exam results.
Children’s Eye Exams
Children’s eyes grow and change at an exponential rate. While this means they are continuously gaining new visual skills and learning new ways to discover their world, this also means they can develop an eye condition with very little notice.
To ensure your child’s eyes are developing properly and to check for signs of childhood eye conditions that need prompt treatment, the CAO recommends the following exam frequency:
- Infants and toddlers should receive their first eye exam between 6 and 9 months of age.
- Preschool children between the ages of 2 and 5 undergo at least one eye exam before starting school.
- School-aged children between the ages of 6 and 19 should have an eye exam every year.
If left untreated, many visual problems can cause your child to fall behind their peers academically and socially.
Give your child visual support by bringing them to Trendz Optical for regular eye exams and trendy, kid-friendly eyewear!
Diabetic Eye Exams
Diabetes is a systemic disease that interferes with your body’s ability to produce or use insulin. It is also the single largest cause of blindness in Canada.
Fluctuating blood sugar levels can greatly impact your eyes, increasing your risk of developing eye diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and diabetic macular edema.
If you have diabetes, it’s essential that you have annual eye exams. These exams will monitor your eyes for specific signs of diabetic eye diseases. While your risk for complications increases the longer you have diabetes, proper diabetes management, regular physician’s appointments, and minding your ABCDEs will protect your vision and long-term health for many years.
To manage the effects of diabetes on your eyes, visit Trendz Optical for diabetic eye exams.

Contact Lens Exams
Contact lenses are an excellent choice for correcting refractive errors like hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. They offer several benefits over eyeglasses and laser eye surgery, making them an ideal alternative for many.
However, because contact lenses sit directly on the eyes, you will need an eye exam and proper fitting to ensure your eyes remain healthy with long-term use.
At Trendz Optical, our optometrists offer thorough contact lens exams and fittings. We assess your ocular health and measure your eyes to ensure your lenses will provide you with crisp, clear, comfortable vision and pose minimal adverse side effects.
We’ll also teach you how to insert, remove, and care for your lenses to reduce your risk of irritation and infections.
Book your contact lens exam today and discover the possibilities of contact lenses!
